ABOUT DAN RIVER CAMPGROUND

Dan River Campground is a beautiful, well maintained campground on 44 acres. Our property is on the Dan River, but no campsites are actually on the river due to its unpredictable levels. We have 37 RV sites that have full hook-ups (water, electric and sewer), 9 RV sites with partial hookups (water and electric, no sewer), 2 tent sites with partial hookups (water and electric, no sewer) and a large group area (scouts, etc) tent site (no water, electric or sewer). We also have walking trails around and throughout the campground.

A Word About Security

We take the safety and security of our campground and property very seriously. Trespassing is not taken lightly. We constantly monitor (physically and by video) the property to ensure that the campground is safe and that a level of security does exist for our campers. At the campground office, before you enter the main campground, we have a security gate. This boundary is meant to secure the campground and only allow registered guests entry. Foot traffic beyond the security gate is not allowed unless you check-in at the office and we allow access. If you do not check-in at the office and pass beyond the security gate or other campground boundaries, you are trespassing.

When you check-in, you will receive a key card for the security gate to use while you are camping. When you check-out, please drop the key card into our key card drop box on the office door. Key cards that are not returned will be deleted from our gate security system and they will no longer function.

Please DO NOT do the following:

  • Park and leave vehicles in front of the office over night.
  • If the office is closed, park a vehicle at the office and walk past the security gate.
  • Let unregistered guests, friends or family into the campground. The office must be made aware of all people coming to visit or camp. Please let us know so we can annotate your booking.
  • Enter the campground without permission or registering. This is trespassing.

Golf carts are not permitted to be used and / or operated on the campground premises. Believe it or not, our insurance does not cover the liability of such vehicles, so we cannot permit them to be used.

At Dan River Campground we adhere to “Leave No Trace”.

Pets

Bringing pets to the campground is a privilege extended to pet owners at Dan River Campground. We know pets are part of the family! However, you will be required to sign our pet waiver, and we do have a two pet limit.

Pets must be quiet and kept on a leash (“electronic leashes” are not permitted. A physical leash / harness is required for all pets) everywhere in the park, and when your pet poops, you are expected to scoop. Please do not leave your pet unattended, even if on a leash. Nobody wants to be left out of the fun!

Pets brought to a campground are typically dogs. We know cats are typical family pets, but unfortunately, we cannot accommodate cats unless they are indoor cats. If you have a cat and bring it to the campground, it is not permitted outside of your camper. No exceptions.

Pet policies are strictly enforced (along with our other campground policies) for the benefit of all campers. Please take a few moments to read the pet policies and observe them. Violation of pet policies will result in being asked to vacate the campground premises.

CAMPGROUND

Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Marked trails make a loop around the campground and for over a mile you see views of the woods, Dan River and Sharp’s Creek. Walk quietly and you will be able to sneak up on the abundant wild life including otter, beaver, turkey, deer, ground hogs and herons. Along the way you will pass the private river access. There are fish in the pond and you can do some catch and release fishing. There are a variety of fish species in the river for those who can wade in or navigate the sometimes steep bank. If you have your own tubes, canoe or kayaks, the private river access is available to campers at no charge. We have a 20 x 40 flat bottom pool that is 4 feet deep and open Memorial Day to Labor Day. You can play volleyball, Frisbee, ping pong, cornhole and horseshoes. Most campsitesites receive free broadcast TV if you have a HDTV antenna. WiFi is available at no charge with the daily camping rate.  Due to mature trees on the campground property and their location, most campsites cannot pick up a satellite signal reliably.

Our Store

We have a small number of essential items available, including ice, firewood and some camping supplies. We fill propane tanks (5lb ~ 100lb) including built-in tanks such as Class A and Class C RV’s.

A Super Walmart, gas station and restaurants are approximately 3.5 miles from the campground off of NC135.
